Mokuhanga in Tokyo in 2027 - Carving and Printing Mount Fuji

I’m very excited to announce my next Mokuhanga workshop in Tokyo Japan for 2027.

This will be a 3 days workshop on the theme “Printing Mount Fuji”: the workshop will be divided between studio hours and tools and material shopping around Tokyo in most of my favourite shops I discovered in 15 years of making Mokuhanga prints.

Every students will carve and print a small edition with the theme of Mount Fuji, taking inspiration from Ukiyo-e style, Shin Hanga and Sosaku Hanga prints. Mount Fuji is the perfect subject to experiment with both traditional and modern carving and printing techniques.

I still have one spot available for dates from January 13th to 15th, if there is enough request I will replicate the workshop the week after so from the 18th to the 20th.

A bit more about the workshop: the days will be divided between studio work in the morning and shopping and visiting craft shops in the afternoon. Part of the workshop will focus on tool shopping and I will advise you individually depending on your budget and level, there will be the chance to buy materials and tools at all levels, both professional and students, depending from how much you want to invest.

Places are limited to 5 students, please note this will be a mixed class, with both beginners and more advanced students, and I will follow each of you individually. The theme will be making a Mount Fuji inspired print in a small edition. I will provide with many example prints from Ukiyo-e, Shin Hanga, Sosaku Hanga and contemporary artwork to use as inspiration. The focus will be both on experimental carving and printing techniques as well as traditional ones.

Materials I will provide
:

  • printing paper (Pansion)
